Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Meets with Pakistan’s Special Representative

The Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan honorable Mr. Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, met with Special Representative of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Afghanistan honorable Mr. Mohammad Sadiq Khan, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting aimed at addressing trade and transit challenges between the two countries, preventing the impact of political tensions on economic ties, and resolving key economic issues.

During the meeting, both parties stressed the significance of holding bilateral meetings frequently, normalizing trade ties, finalizing the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), and resolving issues related to the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit and Trade Agreement (APTTA). They also had detailed discussions regarding visit of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister to Afghanistan, the visit of an IEA delegation to Pakistan, barriers against trade, seasonal supply needs, as well as economic growth of Afghanistan.

Honorable Mr. Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi welcomed the meeting, describing the visit as positive and constructive step toward strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade sector. He stressed the significance of mutual cooperation in lifting barriers against export and import, and noted the upcoming agricultural season as prospect to enhance economic interactions between the two countries.

In the conclusion, both parties stressed continued dialogue and taking practical measures to facilitate trade and transit. Further, they noted that Islamic Republic of Pakistan has strategic opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation with Afghanistan, which could lead to economic prosperity of both nations.
